WHAT IS AN AURA BATTLE
An Aura Battle is a 1vs1 or 2vs2 creative face-off based on alternating actions and responses. Participants compete with presence, creativity and the ability to respond through gestures, poses, movement, performance, humour, dance or other expressive resources, always without deliberate physical contact or personal humiliation.
IT MAY INCLUDE
- Gestures and poses
- Movement and dance
- Footwork
- Performance and mime
- Humor and facial expressions
- Cultural references or memes
- Reaction to the opponent
- Interaction with the music
- Improvisation and original moves
THERE IS NO OBLIGATION TO
- Dance
- Do breaking
- Perform acrobatics
- Use music
CREATIVITY IS WORTH MORE THAN DANGER.
A dangerous move must never score higher simply because it is dangerous.
OFFICIAL CRITERIA
Aura/Presence, Creativity and Response are judged (plus Teamwork in 2vs2). Execution and flow may influence how those criteria are perceived, but they are not separate official criteria.
THE WABF CULTURAL VISION
Aura Battles were born as spontaneous urban expression. The WABF mission is to build an environment where they can evolve into a fuller creative discipline, progressively connected with urban culture and Hip Hop values.
IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION
WABF does not claim that Aura Battle is breaking, nor that it officially represents Hip Hop culture, nor any affiliation with the IOC, WDSF, breaking federations, Hip Hop organizations or governments. “WABF Official Rules” means the official rules of WABF events.
CULTURAL PRINCIPLE
WABF believes competition can become a gateway to movement, dance, music, freestyle, urban culture, creation and face-to-face socializing. This is not about banning phones: it is about creating something fun enough that young people want to take part away from a screen.
